10 Beauty Hacks Every Girl Needs This Summer

Summer days are all about having fun under the sun and keeping cool on those hot and humid days!
Even though dressing lightly for the season is a must, looking breezy is no easy task since we can’t cover up problem areas like we do in the fall and winter months.

We put together 10 Beauty Hacks to help you avoid looking like a hot mess on those steamy days and look flawless all summer long!

1 – Super Smooth Legs

To keep cool in the summer, light clothes are mandatory, but not everyone feels comfortable featuring their legs in summer dresses, short shorts and miniskirts.
To get those pins to look real smooth, shave them and right after, scrub it with a mix of olive oil and sugar, then shave again. The second shaving will remove all the dead skin that was making it look dull.

2 – Prevent Eyeliner From Smudging

To keep you from looking like a raccoon, apply pressed powder before the eyeliner, on upper lids and the waterline. Lastly, apply dark eyeshadow over it to set and keep it from melting downward.

3 – Underarm Lightening

The constant shaving, lack of exfoliation and use of alcohol based deodorants can darken armpits, making some feel self-conscious about wearing sleeveless tops and dresses. Luckily, there are a few options out there to help you get rid of dead cells, and in turn, get an even tone armpit to raise your confidence and rock those tank tops!
In a small bowl, mash and mix together a few slices of cucumber, 2 tbsp. Olive oil. 1 tbsp. Baking soda and 1 tbsp. Lemon juice. Apply to underarm area and leave it on for 10 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry using a soft cloth. Voilá!

4 – Remove Self Tanner

Self-tanners are a great invention and for some of us who can pass as a ghost and hate to bake under the sun, they are heaven sent! But when applied incorrectly or if we didn’t exfoliate and moisturize prior to the application, we can turn a would-be summer glow into a hot mess that will be hard to cover up. If an accident happened, don’t panic. There’s plenty of ways of scrubbing it off, and the one we found to be the most effective is to mix a half cup of baking soda and lemon juice. Add the juice one teaspoon at a time until it becomes a paste. Exfoliate with the mixture and wash away the bad tan!

5 – Prevent Hair from going green in the pool

There’s nothing like laying by the pool in the summer… but for blondes, a little dip can have leave lasting effects in the hair, unless you’re looking for a Grinch look.
The solution to avert this hair disaster is to coat the hair in a silicone based conditioner or leave-in conditioner. For a more natural approach, coat your hair with some coconut oil. Make sure you rinse the hair with chlorine free water once you step out of the pool.

6 – Make Perfume Last All Day

Making the floral and fruity light scents of the season last the whole day without reapplying seems to be an impossible task.
Rub a little Vaseline on your wrists or wherever you like to apply perfume to make it last longer.

7 – Chamomile to Lighten Hair

Chamomile is a natural hair lightener that won’t damage your hair and after a few applications, it will brighten and add a few beautiful light strands to your mane.
Brew a cup of chamomile tea using 2 bags. Let it steep for a few minutes and cool down. Wash and condition your hair as normal. Apply the tea as a final rinse. It won’t leave any residue or scent.

8 – Relieve Sunburn

It happens to the best of us. You were outdoors for an extended period of time and forgot to apply, or reapply sunscreen. Next thing you know, you look like a giant lobster and your skin hurts to the touch.
One of the best solutions for treating a bad sunburn is to mix 2 parts of water and 1 part apple cider vinegar in a bowl. Soak a washcloth in the mixture and apply it to the burned area. Let it soak for a few minutes and let it dry naturally. Rub some coconut oil to the affected area. The apple cider vinegar reduces the inflammation and the coconut oil moisturizes and nourishes the burnt skin.

9 – Prevent Sandal Blisters

Blisters suck! All it takes to get a few of them is trying a new pair of sandals and walk in it for about a block on a hot day.
You won’t believe this tip, but it actually works. Apply deodorant to areas of friction on your feet to prevent moisture and minimize the rubbing of the straps on your feet.

10 – Frizz Control

We can’t all have Kate Middleton’s hair but we can help minimize the frizz that comes with those hot and extra humid days.
Make this easy mist by using 1 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of melted coconut oil and a few drops of your favorite essential oil (we like lavender) in a small spray bottle. Apply it right after you wash and condition your hair. It will not only help your hair defrizz but also give it an extra hydration and shine boost!
