Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words, showing us what we choose to ignore looking at the mirror.
Halley Smith, 24, from Amarillo, Texas was happily engaged until she got to see herself in the proposal photos. ”I cried my eyes out”, she said to the Daily Mail. She was happy, but the pictures made her feel so embarrassed that she didn’t even share it with friends and family on social media.
At the time when her then-boyfriend Matt proposed, she weighed 277 pounds. Halley knew she had to do something about it.
She was always a chubby kid and an overweight teenager that miss out on a lot of things, outings with friends as well as family activities due to her being embarrassed about her shape. Going to college only made matters worse. She was an emotional eater and having an unlimited college meal plan made her gain a lot more weight.
Her weight also brought on a lot of health problems. ”I was tired, slow, sweaty, and out of breath after just about anything. I couldn’t sleep, had aches and pains all over my body, high blood pressure, poor complexion, heartburn, and got headaches practically every day. I missed out on so many things because of it.”, she said.
Halley decided she was not going to let her weight ruin what was supposed to be the happiest day of her life.
She embarked on a journey that changed her life for the better. She started logging her food and water intake, ditched junk food and replaced it with more fruits and vegetables. She started running 3 times a week, eventually joining a gym where she worked out five times a week doing a mix of cardio and strength training.
”You have to start small to make a habit and encourage yourself,” she says.
Her husband played a big part of her transformation, supporting her every step of the way.
Halley said: ”He even loved me enough to propose to me at my highest weight when I was feeling unlovable. He has seen me at my best and my worst.”
Hard Work Paid Off
Halley lost a total of 110 pounds, and looked stunning on her wedding day! She wore a strapless gown, revealing her astonishing transformation to their wedding guests.
The newlyweds went to New Zealand for their honeymoon where they had a trip of a lifetime!
For all of us trying to shed some weight, Halley left some advice for her followers on Instagram ”Don’t quit just because you are starting to feel comfortable with your body! Keep pushing, there’s always room for improvement and always new goals.”
