Pack Your Bags! Free Wine Fountain Opens In Italy

Best Tourism

Italy is an incredible place to visit, full of amazing foods and more art and culture than one can take in. But what if I told you that in this beautiful land you can also find a wine fountain where you can drink as much as you want out of it, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for free? This place becomes even more magical than it already is!

No, you’re not dreaming.

The ”Fontana del Vino” is located in Caldari di Ortona, in the Abruzzo region along a popular pilgrim route, the Cammino di San Tommaso.

Every year, thousands of pilgrims make the journey from Rome to Ortona to visit the cathedral housing the remains of one of Jesus’ disciples, Thomas.  The wine fountain was a way for a local winery and a non-profit organization to maintain and promote the pilgrimage route.

They found inspiration from a similar wine fountain in Spain, installed along the Santiago de Compostela Pilgrimage Route.

Pilgrims and tourists traveling through the Cammino di San Tommaso are encouraged to stop by the fountain and enjoy a glass of the local sourced wine, totally free of charge, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

On its Facebook page, the winery Dora Sarchese, wrote: “The wine fountain is a welcome, the wine fountain is poetry.” They just want to make sure that the fountain is not a place for “drunkards” or “louts”.

Next time you plan a vacation to Italy, don’t forget to pack a wine glass.
