Imagine a Monday morning at the office, full of grumpy adults that would rather be doing something else other than showing up for work, but instead, you show up to find a bunch of kitties hanging out the office workers, putting everyone in a better mood.

That’s a reality in the offices of Ferray Corporation, an IT Company in Tokyo, Japan. Stress tends to run high in Tokyo due to a fast-paced lifestyle, high pressure and demanding jobs. The company found a way to increase productivity and decrease stress by implementing a pet policy in its offices.

Workers are allowed to bring their cats to work with them and everyday is a ”Bring Your Cat To Work” kind of day. Employees who still don’t have a cat at home are encouraged by the company to rescue a kitty from their local shelter by giving them a 45 dollars monthly bonus.

Since the pet policy was implemented and employees started bringing their cats to work, there have been some minor annoyances, but a positive experience for the most part. Office productivity and communication have increased enormously, since the cats are a common topic that brings everyone together, thus lowering the office’s overall stress.

”Sometimes a cat will walk on a phone and cut the call, or they switch off the computers by walking on the off switch,” said Hidenobu Fukuda, the company’s director was responsible for implementing the office’s pet policy.

For new hires, the most important quality they look for in a new prospect employee is the love for cats. Qualifications and experience come in second.

Fortunately, offices all over Japan are catching up to the idea of making their offices pet-friendly to increase the overall well-being of their employees.

Who wouldn’t want to show up for work and see these cute and friendly faces every single day? For cat lovers, this would be called paradise!
