There’s always a moment in everyone’s life when they can pinpoint exactly what made them make a 180-degree change. To this woman, seeing her own pictures as a bridesmaid in her brother’s wedding was enough to make her decide right then and there that she would make a change in her lifestyle for the better.

At her heaviest, Shannon Covert, 30, a travel agent from Las Vegas, weighted 371 pounds. She never exercised and consumed an average of 3500 calories on a daily basis, eating mostly junk foods, sugary drinks and takeout meals as much as 10 times a week.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, she said: ”Before I would eat anything and everything. I would never exercise. Walking back to my car was the most exercise I got.”

Shannon’s weight loss journey began in June of 2014. She joined a gym and started eating healthier meals, with the support of her husband, Robert. She ditched all the unhealthy foods and started consuming an average of 1200 calories a day. Grilled chicken, veggies, fruits, yogurt and protein shakes became her go-to foods. By January of 2015, Shannon had already lost 70 pounds and decided to get a weight loss surgery sleeve procedure to help her lose the rest of the weight, followed by a tummy tuck.

Many people in her life were opposed to her getting a gastric sleeve surgery since she had already lost so much weight by changing her lifestyle.

”Las Vegas is full of beautiful people with amazing bodies and I was immediately judged when I stepped foot in the gym. I was stared at, mocked, judged and even videotaped while being laughed at. But I kept the mindset of ‘I am not here for them, I am here for me.’ Let them show their lack of character with their judgmental actions.” she said.

Unfortunately, in the process of making a positive change in her life, her marriage fell apart when her husband became allegedly jealous of her newly found self-confidence, and sadly, they ended up getting a divorce.

”It’s a constant battle but now I’m healthy and happy. When I want something I make it happen. My lifestyle is completely different now.” – she said.
