Mean comments can either shatter a person’s soul or catapult them to a whole new level.
Hashi Suraweera, a nurse from Melbourne, Australia had been overweight her whole life and had a negative body image of herself, but because of her addiction to food, she kept delaying making a change to her lifestyle.
That’s until a friend posted a group photo with Hashi in it to Facebook. What she didn’t expect to see was how mean people can be. Her photo was targeted and received multiple negative comments and attacks about her weight. She first got down about it, like any other human being would after reading humiliating and abusive insults about your own body, but she quickly shook it off and decided she was going to change her diet and lifestyle, using those comments as motivation.
”I was devastated and depressed, but I decided to take the first step to changing my body from that day onwards”, she told TrimmedAndToned.
Changing life-long habits are not easy, and getting on a diet was certainly not an easy task for Hashi, who gained a lot of her weight due to stress while attending college. Her daily diet consisted of lots of bad carbs, sugars and fat. She was addicted to food and curry rice and pizza were her go to foods. She could easily eat 2 whole pizzas in a day.
She realized this diet and lifestyle were not healthy for her and her body was desperate for a change. She joined a gym, going 4 times a week late at night when it was quieter. As she started seeing results, she increased her gym visits to 6 times a week and started doing HIIT sessions to maximize her weight loss.
Her relationship with food started to change as well. She ditched all the unhealthy processed foods that were once a staple in her diet and began eating and preparing healthy, wholesome and organic meals. She made sure she had a deficit in calories so her stored body fat could be used as energy during her workouts.
In just 10 months, Hashi lost 92 pounds. Her transformation was so astonishing that even her mom didn’t recognize her! Real hard work pays off. It might not happen overnight, but the lessons learned in the process are just as important as the results.
Now that she doesn’t need to lose anymore weight, Hashi is now focused in weight training to tone her body and help people that are interested in beginning their weight loss journey through social media channels, where she shares ideas, tricks, meal plans and workout tips.
Here’s an example of Hashi’s typical daily meals designed specifically for her, consisting of 1100 calories:
